IT Lions roar; wins SSGC Sports Festival 2014

NEWSKarachi May 18, 2014: SSGC Sports Festival 2014 started with a bang and ended with a bigger bang with a glittering Award Ceremony held on Saturday May 17, 2014 at SSGC’s Karachi Terminal ground. One of the Company’s eight inter-divisional teams, IT Lions headed the points table by winning the most number of medals. Last year’s Champions MS Kangaroos came in a close second while Finance Falcons secured the third spot.

While addressing the Company executives who since the last one month had participated in more than 24 sports in Karachi, chief guest Zuhair Siddiqui, MD, SSGC hailed their competitive spirit and a brilliant show of camaraderie throughout the festival. He added that sports were an ultimate leveler that can cultivate a sense of togetherness and this Festival demonstrated plenty of unity. The MD especially congratulated Project lead Shahbaz Islam, DGM (Corp. Communications/Organization Development) and his team for putting together a spectacular sports extravaganza.

Earlier, in his address, Yusuf J. Ansari, DMD (Corporate Services) and Sr. Vice President SSGC Sports Board expressed his hope that the Company employees will be able to demonstrate the same determination and will to win that they have shown during the festival, in their day jobs. Sui Southern Officers Association’s General Secretary Shahabuddin Siddiqui, and President Irfan Ali Jafri in their addresses, congratulated the organizers for arranging a spectacular sporting event and added that SSGOA had chipped in to co-organize this Award Ceremony to acknowledge the participating team’s performances and provide the Company employees and their families with quality entertainment.

Project Lead Shahbaz Islam thanked the media for giving the 4-week Festival extensive coverage, sponsors for their monetary support as well as all the departments inside the Company for their respective support. During the Award Ceremony, SSGC’s executives presented comedy skits that met with tremendous applause from the audience.

After dinner some of the country’s leading musicians including Mohammad Ali Shayaki and Hasan Jehangir entertained the audience with their popular songs while the comedians brought the house down with jokes and humor.
