Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) is Pakistan’s leading integrated public-limited large-scale natural gas utility Company. The Government of Pakistan directly and indirectly owns the majority of the shareholdings of the Company. SSGC has been engaged in the business of transmission (over 4,200 kms, upto 42’ dia.) and distribution (around 50,000 kms) of natural gas besides installation of high-pressure transmission and low-pressure distribution systems in the franchise provinces of Sindh and Balochistan since 1954. The Company purchases gas from on-shore indigenous gas fields as well as RLNG re-gasification terminals, for supply to 3.5 million customers in the areas of operations.
SSGC is managed by an autonomous Board of Directors comprising of 11 members. The Managing Director/ Chief Executive is appointed by the Government of Pakistan and has been delegated with such powers as vested by the Board of Directors, necessary to effectively conduct the business of the company.
SSGC operates South Asia’s only meter manufacturing plant which assembles and manufactures G-4 and G-16 domestic gas meters in compliance with the European standards. With an annual production capacity exceeding 1.5 million units, the plant plays a critical role in meeting the nation’s demand for domestic gas meters.
The gas utility aims to ensure top-class customer service through a right blend of technology and human touch, while operating 23 Customer Facilitation Centers (CFCs) in Sindh and Balochistan and 1199 call centres to cater to customer’s gas-related queries.
SSGC-LPG Ltd. is SSGC’s wholly-owned fully integrated subsidiary Company engaged in the marketing and distribution of LPG across Pakistan. The subsidiary company has been in operation since 2012. SSGC-Alternate Energy (AE) (Pvt.) Ltd. is yet another wholly-owned subsidiary of SSGC, established in 2022 to bring unallocated gas through alternate ways to the customers on competitive terms. Diversification of business stream in order to earn non-operating income has been one of the key company objectives.
The last couple of years has seen an enhancement in the Company’s operational efficiency and turnaround in the financial performance and consecutive decline in reported UFG losses. The Company is also undertaking a massive rehabilitation program in its franchise areas to address system leakages and strengthen network integrity.
