National Road Cycling Championship 2017 – Team SSGC clinches top position

SSGC made a clean sweep at the ‘SSGC National Road Cycling Championship’ by winning the Team Time Trial Race and clinching 5 out of 6 positions in the other two individual competitions of Time Trial and Lap Race. The 2-day Championship was held under the aegis of Pakistan Cycling Federation and was hosted by SSGC at DHA’s Sea View area on February 18-19, 2017. Baluchistan’s team finished second whereas Sindh-A bagged third place in the Team Time Trials.

The Championship was contested by 36 cyclists from 6 teams including Sindh A, Sindh B, Balochistan, KPK, Punjab and SSGC. SSGC’s talented riders Naimat Ali and Ghulam Hussain clinched first positions of the Individual Time Trial (42 kms) and Lap Race (98 kms) respectively.

The closing ceremony was held at SSGC’s Head Office Auditorium in Karachi. Syed Azhar Ali Shah, PCF’s Secretary and Col. (R) Shoaib Ahmed, AGM (Admin. Services) welcomed the participants at the closing ceremony and termed the competition a major success. The Chief Guest of the Closing Ceremony SSGC’s ADMD (Operations), Mr. Mohammad Wasim presented the Winner’s trophy to SSGC’s Coach Najeeb Sheikh. Mr. Wasim congratulated the winners and said that SSGC will continue to play its supportive role in Sports, especially in the Cycling. He said that it is heartening to see SSGC’s cycling team maintaining the top slots in Pakistan Cycling Competition.

Naimat Ali and Rizwan were jointly declared as the National Champions. Senior officials of PCF including Syed Azhar Ali Shah (Secretary General), Nisar Ahmad (VP), Col. (R) Saad Ibnul Hasan (VP) and Salman A. Siddiqui (PRO) DGM (Corporate Communications) at SSGC were actively involved in managing the event. Col. (R) Shoaib Ahmed, AGM (AS) and Shahbaz Islam, AGM (CCD), along with their respective teams were present to ensure flawless management of the event. SSGC’s Ishtiaq Mubeen, DM (Sports) was the Organizing Secretary of this championship. The joint Committee comprised of former National Champion Nusrat Khan (Chief Judge) and PCF’s treasurer Javaid Khan. M. Ali Gohar, CM (CCD) conducted the closing ceremony. Initially the event was scheduled to take place between Karachi and Hyderabad motorway, however, due to construction of motorway the Cycling Championship was shifted to DHA, Karachi.
