SSGC cracks down on gas theft in a Landhi factory

NEWSAs part of its continuous drive against gas theft, SSGC’s Surveillance and Monitoring Department along with the FIA team conducted a major raid at a fat melting factory in Cattle Colony, Landhi, Karachi on March 6, 2014. The factory owner was involved in direct use of gas, causing SSGC losses of millions of rupees and substantial gas volumes.

Acting promptly, the Customer Relations team removed the fake meter while the DSM dismantled the illegal connections in the presence of Security, S&M and FIA personnel.

The teams discovered that the owner was involved in gas theft by installing fake meters for running its operations.  It was estimated by SSGC officials that the customer was engaged in gas theft worth Rs. 20 to Rs. 30 million a year. The S&M and FIA teams were assisted in this operation by the Company’s Customer Relations, Distribution, Services and Maintenance (DSM) and Security Services Departments.

Acting promptly, the Customer Relations team removed the fake meter while the DSM dismantled the illegal connections in the presence of Security, S&M and FIA personnel.

Two individuals were arrested by FIA on the spot while the raid is still on to apprehend the factory owner.

It must be mentioned here that the factory owner had a past gas theft record, having had the property’s gas connection disconnected previously too for his involvement in this crime. For that theft case, a claim of Rs. 553,801 was lodged by SSGC against the factory owner which has yet to be acknowledged by the customer.
