Playing at the first class level for the first time, SSGC made an impressive debut in the prestigious Quaid-e-Azam Cricket Trophy that was played from October 20, 2007 to January 12, 2008.
SSGC was amongst the 21 departments and regions that competed in the tour-nament. The team may have finished 7th in the Group A points table winning 2 games out of 10, yet there were flashes of brilliance from several of our cricketers. Chiefly among them was batsman Asif Zakir and paceman Sohail Khan who played consistently well throughout the tournament. Asif Zakir was amongst the highest scorers of the tournament scoring 3 centuries while Sohail Khan became the highest wicket taker of the tournaŽment taking 65 wickets in 9 matches that included a sizzling 10 wicket haul of 16 for 189 against WAPDA.
Inspired by Misbah-ul-Haq's brilliant century, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Lim-ited (SNGPL) lifted the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy National Cricket Championship title on the basis of the first innings lead for the first time after the final against Habib Bank Limited (HBL). The game ended in a tame draw at the National Stadium on January 12, 2008. Scores: SNGPL 351 (1st Innings), and 304 for 9 declared; Habib Bank 192 (1st Innings) and Habib Bank 166 for 1.
In December 2006, SSGC trounced De-fence Housing Authority to win the Patrons' Trophy Grade II Final in Lahore to ensure its entry into the Patrons' Tro-phy Grade 1 Category.
